Many things can be perceived as trauma in the body. Whether it be something acute and abrupt or an accumulation of stressors over time, our bodies can get stuck in the fight, flight or freeze response. Accidents, invasive medical procedures, sexual or physical assault, emotional abuse, neglect, war, natural disasters, loss, birth trauma, or the impact of prolonged fear and conflict, can all be sources of trauma. The resulting emotional restriction can manifest itself in many ways and inhibit the realization of our true physical and relational potential.
Dr. Lawrence is a practitioner of Somatic Experiencing. This is a body-oriented approach to addressing trauma and stress disorders, with the goal of finding the root cause of trauma symptoms. Instead of the traditional method of talking through the stressful event(s), the client will be gently guided to become aware of emotion being held in the body and given tools to break chronic motor responses preventing true healing.
